CEOs & Leaders - Scientifically Proven Techniques To Improve Performance Excellence

This article is FULL of proven research papers, showing how to create focus, reduce anxiety, and increase you and your people’s health. Therefore increasing performance excellence and wellbeing.

The brain is a pretty amazing organ. We completely underestimate, and also don’t give gravitas to the ability that the brain has for change, regeneration, and therefore creating a new way of feeling and being for us. I have talked in the past about neuroplasticity. The action of the brain rewiring and creating new neural pathways as a response to a new way of thinking or being OR following brain damage after an accident. There has also been recent research showing the effect of exercise on neuroplasticity and the ability to learn shown here, as well as reducing degenerative diseases in adults. Just short amounts of brain training can create an increase in neural pathways shown here, increasing memory throughout our lives, even into adulthood.

I have also talked about how mindfulness can increase the size of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for focus, planning, and concentration. Mindfulness can also decrease the size of the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for stress response. Mindfulness has now also been investigated for treating anxiety and depression as seen here in the Harvard Gazette.

It’s only really been in more recent years, we’ve had the ability to carry out less expensive MRI scans looking at these physiological brain changes and how they can affect our wellbeing, mental health and increase our performance . All of this is still quite new for us to comprehend as humans.

So if we know all of this already, the research is very clear in black-and-white, thinking in a different way and practising mindfulness significantly helps us manage stress, increase decision-making ability, helps focus, and can increase clarity, why are we not implementing this in all workspaces, schools and in every part of our lives? That is my question to you!

Having focus on a specific goal and outcome ensures that people are looking for the solution to reach this.

Using these techniques puts people into creative space, often looking for new and improved ways of getting there. This focus and brain training is essential in today’s distracted world.

I believe that because this is so new, this change in mindset and understanding of new techniques for focus in a distracted world are yet to be implemented.

  • What can I do to help myself and others within the business maintain focus on the outcome we are striving towards?

  • Do all of my employees know what their goal/ outcome/ purpose is within this company?

  • How easy/ difficult do my employees find it to focus?

  • How easily are they distracted?

  • What happens if I start implementing focused training on a regular basis for all of my people and myself?

  • What happens if I don’t implement focus training for myself and others?

  • What is stopping me from implementing focus training techniques for my people?

  • What are the financial implications if I don’t implement focus-based training for the people within my business?

  • What are the financial implications if I do implement focused training for my employees?

Executive Coaches enable people (individually and as groups) to discover an outcome that they really want, and ensure that they maintain focus on this, working out a way to get to that given outcome and goal.

Implementing mindfulness, coaching programs or focus training will make a significant difference to how your people work with challenges, cope with stress, and will also increase creativity. The research is there without any doubts to the efficacy.
